Band Spotlight : Bite The Hand

Over the past few months, I’ve discovered that Arizona bands that consist of hardcore, punk, and alternative music are truly a force to be reckoned with. Bands such as Fortuna Malvada consisting of their crunchy tone with heavy breakdowns and Velour with their heavy emo shoe gaze sounds carry onto the scene of heaviness and emotion towards the crowd. However, somewhere in between angst and emotion, we have Bite the Hand, a band that brings in the comfort of safe spaces and freedom.

Emerging from the vast suburbia of Phoenix, AZ, Bite the Hand is already making big inclusive waves in the scene of hardcore and punk music. They have truly been on a mission to get the current crowd going while welcoming newcomers into the scene. If I can say anything about this band, they are doing one hell of a job showcasing their vibe and energy on Instagram. They are always posting about talking to their community and preaching that in this genre, all are welcome. Just that alone is something I really admire about this band. The messages portrayed in their music is truly powerful, indicating their stances on awarenesses and movements, highlighting that everyone that joins the scene are welcome and in a safe space, judgement-free. Their style of music can have the mix of hardcore, metallic heaviness and alternative, melodic flows, depending on what comes out during their artistic writing process.

They just recently released their first EP “CONNED OUT OF LIFE,” featuring some heavy-hitting tracks such as “Bent Knees” and “TV’S ON.” The band still manages to be genre fluid with some of their more grunge and shoe gaze-influenced songs such as “Smile Baby” and “Pageant Queen.” I had the privilege and honor to meet the band in an interview this past week and they stated that their strong musical influence came from the Florida band, Poison The Well, in terms of their writing style. They mentioned how they really admired the band’s [Poison The Well] ability to seamlessly switch between moods and genres. This is just another testament to how Bite The Hand is for everyone, and how this genre is for anyone that wants to start listening to new music and wants to ease in slowly. Meeting them was a blast, and I learned much more about their approach with their music, how they want to continue portraying messages in their songs, and overall give the comfortability for those who may need a hand in life or just someone to turn to in times of need.

Bite The Hand brings so much to the hardcore and alternative table and lays it all down with their heavy rifts and emotional lyrics. Be sure to look out for the interview on the YouTube channel soon, for we went into a deeper conversation about their journey to where they are, what they wish to continue portraying, and everything about their style of music. It was truly a privilege and honor to meet and chat with them about all things music. My final note, whether you’re a new comer to the genre or a seasoned mosh pit veteran, go give Bite The Hand a listen or buy some merch! I guarantee you won’t regret it, for it’s good music and good vibrations, always.
