Interview With Cordiform Band

Discovering new music within different bands is a therapeutic feeling, along with getting to know who the band is and what their story grows into. Forming in Melbourne, Australia, Cordiform brings their background of catchy riffs and honest lyrics submerging 2010s pop punk with a modern approach in sound about personal struggles, growing up and getting older, and the aspects of falling in and out of love. I had the privilege and honor to have a brief interview with them discussing topics from their origin story to their future goals as they continue to rise their name for growing crowds.

How did you guys meet and form a band? What is Cordiform’s Origin Story?

Cordiform came together through mutual friends and online groups! Tim & James met from a friend's band and both were mutually ready to start making pop punk music together. Liam & Brody were found through the process of putting a call out for auditions for the band and the rest is history! The speed we went from almost total strangers to this little unit probably surprised us the most!

If you had to pick your top 3 influences of other bands that helped create your sound, who would they be?

The big 3 for us are Neck Deep, The Story So Far, & Trophy Eyes! We all mutually love these bands, and in our spare time, you'll find us nerding out about the specific riffs and drums fills on their popular albums. All of those bands released music in the last year which has been great for us, especially on some of the longer car rides we’ve been doing together.

You guys just played your own mini festival “Pizza Planet.” What was the overall experience like planning and organizing a mini festival? What were some of the struggles and what were some of the best parts?

Honestly we were surprised how easy it came together! We put in a lot of pre planning and timem but with all that preparation, it came together super smooth on the day & with all the bands who joined the lineup being so supportive, made our setup run much easier then we expected. We are very lucky that a lot of friends and people we love play in such great bands and were willing to jump on board with us. Otherwise, getting bands to take that risk to run such an event could have really been a struggle. But we really knew what we wanted, which helped guide us through the planning stages. One of my favourite parts was for sure right at the end of the set when all of our little stage prob aliens were being thrown around the crowd as we played Doomsday. Really surreal to see such a big crowd going nuts from the stage.

What are some goals you guys have for the band for year or so? New EP or possible full length album soon?

We're back in writing mode now! We don't have a locked in idea of what the next group of music is going to come out as but we definitely know we're gonna double down with the pop punk sound so get ready for an even more pop punk cordiform coming in 2025. 2024 has been so different to 2023, when we launched we played a dozen shows while trying to get our releases out. Instead this year it was about making our own shows really special. We were super lucky to press our EP to vinyl and catch up our releases to what we play live. So in 2025, we’re excited to start making new music and commit all of our time and energy into it.
